2011 is an exciting year for Holy Rood Church in Swinton, Salford, Greater Manchester. Not only does this year celebrate the Centenary of Holy Rood as an independent parish, it also sees the 400th anniversary of the publication of the King James Version of the Bible. We wanted to raise money in a sponsored event, in this case a tandem bike ride from Holy Rood Palace, Edinburgh, to Holy Rood Church, Swinton. The King James Version of the Bible was contemporary in 1611, and we wanted to fund a programme which would in some way make the Bible accessible – and read – at Holy Rood with its centenary focus on Cross and Bible. |
